South Ural State University has taken the 16th place among regional digital economy universities. It has become the only representative of the Chelyabinsk Region in this ranking.
SUSU students had the honour of participating in the Flame Lighting Ceremony at the opening of the Ski-track of Russia, a mass ski race event, in Chelyabinsk. The race was held at the stadium of Elena Elesina Track-and-field Complex last weekend.
“In Russia, sport is a way of life. It helps us in overcoming difficulties and making our country stronger and more stable,” greeted the skiers the Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin.
At the excavations near the city of Magnitogorsk, SUSU archaeologists, in collaboration with the South Urals Foundation, discovered a unique-for-South Urals burial-mounds complex with an ancient tomb of a young woman. The remains were found during the excavations at Kharkovsky I ritual complex in autumn of 2022.

– Not every person is brave enough to move to a different country. Or to go study there for that matter. How did this happen in your life?
– I came to China quite by chance. I had never considered this country as my studies destination.
February 10th is Alexander Pushkin's Memorial Day. Alexander Pushkin (1799 – 1837) was a great poet and writer, founder of the modern Russian literary language. He was fatally wounded in a notorious duel with Georges-Charles de Heeckeren d'Anthès. The majority of our huge country’s citizens know this story, but not all international students know everything about the life and work of Alexander Pushkin.
A team of SUSU scientists, jointly with experts from the Ural Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences and immunologists from China (Huazhong University of Science and Technology), have presented a new understanding of the role of the JAK-STAT intracellular signalling system, which regulates such processes as the growth, development, division and destruction of cells in body, in case of stress disorders. Researchers have proposed to expand the range of means treating the signalling system and disorders caused by stress.
Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler chaired the Council meeting. In the course of the meeting, the head of our region, leaders and scientists of universities summed up the results of the Year of Science and discussed the priority directions of development of our region’s scientific potential. The governor congratulated the representatives of the scientific community on their professional holiday and reported that the interest in research activity is growing across our whole country. The integration of science and production remains a priority.
Over the past year, SUSU had a series of victories in major federal competitions and projects thanks to the high-quality work on the applications by the university teams, the attraction of leading scientists, as well as the development of facilities and resources of five new laboratories through the implementation of the Priority 2030 development program.
An opinion on the need to expand the list of property suits in the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, provided by Tikhon Podshivalov, Head of the Department of Civil Law and Civil Legal Procedures, Deputy Director for Research of the SUSU Institute of Law, Candidate of Sciences (Legal Science), Associate Professor, has been published in the recent issue of Advokatskaya Gazeta (Lawyer’s Newspaper), the official printed platform of the Russian Federal Bar Association.
ChTZ-URALTRAK (Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant) is part of the Russian defence industry complex, and it mainly produces dual-purpose diesel engines with the capacity of up to 1500 hp. The plant is currently solving an important problem on increasing the capacity of a series-production engine, while not making it heavier or leading to losses in its service life. Forcing of the engine inevitably entails increased loads on the main parts, components and units.

The head coach of the SUSU Polytechnic hockey team Artyom Pletnev said that organizing a match every year is not difficult: all the participants treated Vladimir Lyapkalo well, and they respond on occasion at the first call.
On January 21st, International Postgraduate Day is celebrated all over the world. It was on this day in 1925 that documents regulating the system of training university researchers were signed. This holiday is celebrated by graduate students, scientific supervisors, and specialists working in research institutes of any field of study. Natalia Shaburova, Head of the Centre for Doctoral Studies at South Ural State University, spoke about the specifics and importance of the centre's work at our university.
On January 21st, future applicants and their parents were able to get to know the schools and institutes of our university better, and also learned about the new admission rules for 2024.
The famous Yurait federal publishing house has recently published a Digital Forensics textbook, the authors of which were scientists from the Institute of Law of South Ural State University.
This is already the second edition, revised and expanded (the first one was published in 2022). The textbook is certified by the Academic Methodological Association of Higher Education and can be used in any Russian university that trains specialists in this field.

Temperature meter, detector, sensor − all these are the names of the device that has been developed by employees of the SUSU Research Institute for Non-conventional Materials and Resource-Saving Technologies. The device measures temperature many times more accurately than similar devices currently available in the world.

On January 18th, a presentation of the book Chelyabinsk Cinemas of the 20th Century took place at the Chelyabinsk Public Assembly House. The co-authors of the book were Professor of the Department of Russian and Foreign History of the SUSU Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Evgeniy Volkov and Associate Professor of the same department Maksim Sapronov. Other authors were local historians Dmitriy Grafov, Iuriy Latyshev, and Mikhail Khabirov.
Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin announced the results of the competitive selection of the Advanced Engineering Schools federal project. In 2022, 30 universities had become winners of the project; in the second wave of selection in 2023, 57 applicants from 40 regions were heard, as a result, 20 winning universities were selected. South Ural State University entered the second group with funding of 230.4 million roubles in 2024.
